In 1978 when I was 10 years old my folks bought me a used Olds Ambassador for 5th grade band. I played the daylights out of that horn for 10 years, then put it away. I dutifully kept it in various closets for the next 26 years. I stumbled into a community band then joined an Honor Guard. It was time to move up from the Olds. I looked around for a while and decided it came down to a Bach Stradivarius or a Yamaha Xeno (both excellent to be sure). But then a Stomvi Mambo Titanium found me. As soon as it was in my hands I knew it was something. Just the look and feel were incredible. It was perfectly silver from the bends to the buttons. The balance defied gravity and the valves practically moved themselves. The air blew from the mouthpiece straight out the bell with nothing in between. Incredible. This trumpet has a big easy voice that sings a lullaby then calls the room to attention. The potential living in this horn is well beyond my ability, but at least I’ll always have a goal.
