UpSound

UpSound is a warm-up and practice device for use with brass instrument mouthpieces.

The UpSound chamber simulates the back pressure of an instrument. By using a mouthpiece with UpSound the player will experience a similar sensation to playing their instrument. This sensation is impossible to duplicate with a mouthpiece alone.

UpSound is great for:
–Practicing or warming up in situations where using the instrument is impractical.
–Working on ear training and pitch control.
–Focusing on embouchure and breath control.

UpMute

The UpMute is a great practice mute with impeccable intonation and an even blow throughout all registers.

Following the UpSound philosophy, it is a great tool in becoming a more efficient player. A true practice mute, the UpMute will not only allow you to practice anywhere without disturbing others, but also improve your playing and efficiency thanks to the UpSound Filter inside of it. The UpSound filter in it allows you to “feel” when you’re using too much effort. The idea is to play your instrument with the UpMute and use the least amount of effort to produce the tone.

UpMute has:

  • Incredible Intonation
  • Minimum Backpressure
  • Good Sound Quality
  • Quiet enough to be used in apartment and hotel rooms.
  • Easy to carry in the bell

FAQs

What is UpSound?

UpSound is both a practice tool for brass instruments, as well as a philosophy. As a tool for brass instruments, it is a device that you buzz into with your brass instrument mouthpiece. Using this device allows the player to focus on how much effort one is using while buzzing, giving great feedback for steering the player to use the correct amount of effort.

As a philosophy, UpSound strives to help players understand that brass playing does not have to be strenuous and difficult. With the UpSound line of products, you will be able to play more efficiently, more relaxed, and anywhere you want to practice.

What can the UpSound be used for?

The UpSound can be used for daily practice and warm up with your mouthpiece. Whether you need to run some exercises or need a quick warm up in the car on the way to the gig, the UpSound is there for you.

How is the UpSound different than other buzzing devices?

The UpSound is different than other buzzing devices because of the UpSound filter and resonance chamber. The UpSound filter allows players to feel the resistance similar to the instrument, allowing for a practical response and application to mouthpiece buzzing. The chamber allows you to feel real time feedback for how well you are using the UpSound.

So while other mouthpiece buzzing devices are just holders, or increase resistance, the UpSound gives you a practical application to use the just the mouthpiece, whether practicing, warming up, or in the car.

After playing my UpSound for a while, it gets stuffy. How do I resolve this?/How do I clean my UpSound?

Just like your trumpet, your UpSound needs the spit emptied occasionally. If your UpSound feels like it is getting stuffy or less free blowing than when you first got it, you need to empty the spit.

To do this, all you need to do is remove the white part of the UpSound from the chamber and blow on the receiver to remove any spit that has collected in the filter.

What is the correct way to use the UpSound?

The key to using the UpSound correctly is to judge the feedback it gives you. When buzzing into the UpSound, you will be able to identify how efficiently you are playing via the resonance chamber that you hold. When you use too much effort, the UpSound will feel stuffy and hard to play. When you use too little effort, the sound will stutter. When you are using the correct amount of effort, the chamber will resonate and you will be able to feel that in your hand.

What are the main features of the UpMute?/What makes it different from other practice mutes?

The UpMute is the only true practice mute where you get both the ability to practice anywhere AND the ability to improve on your instrument without changing how you play. It’s main features that make it stand out compared to other practice mutes are:

  • It’s advantageous acoustic shape allowing it to be played in tune.
  • The UpSound filter inside accurately simulates the playing environment with minimal back pressure.
  • It’s size allows it to be portable inside a case while inside the bell.
  • It is quiet enough to use in apartments, hotels, dorms, and more.
Where can I use the UpMute?

You can use the UpMute anywhere with your instrument. It functions as a practice mute, allowing you to play anywhere without disturbing those around you.

How do I prevent damage to the Neoprene?

To ensure the longevity of your UpMute, we recommend that you DO NOT twist the mute to either insert or remove it from the bell. Simply apply pressure to push it in and pull it out.

If you are in need of a replacement Neoprene for your UpMute, please send us a Parts Request Form.
