Having spent the last 18 months on a quest for the perfect flugel, I finally found it at Stomvi USA. Kasper was truly accommodating and knowledgeable in helping me find the right combination of instrument and mouthpiece. I contacted Kasper prior to my visit to the US and arranged to meet and trial the flugel. He provided 3 flugels to try, all very different in sound and feel, but all extremely good. As a former tenor horn player, I wanted a flugel that would match it in sound across the entire register. The Titan 170 did just that – stunningly deep and warm sound even using very different mouthpieces. The ease of blowing was the first thing – I have tried so many other flugels that need some real hard work to get a reasonable airflow – the Stomvi was an absolute dream. Valve action was extremely slick and made it much easier to hit every note in the right way. The bell on the 170 is huge, and there lies its secret – the tonal quality and projection were significantly enhanced and produced such a massive sound without having to overblow. It looked amazing, had excellent balance and weight, and sounded like nothing I had played before – I was sold!
I also asked Kapser to customise the look with gold valve caps and water keys (as per the Elite) and also gold plate the inside of the bell. It took less than a day to complete – superb service from Kasper and his team. The flex mouthpiece was very good and has really helped with the higher register, giving a slightly brighter tone. Everything was despatched to me the following day.
I am now the very proud owner of a truly amazing instrument – the best of the best in all respects! I would urge you to try one of these flugels – they are world-beating!
