Description
Big Bell S3
The S3 Big Bell retains all the S3 characteristics; even with excellent intonation, clean articulation, great slotting, quick response, and an easy open upper register. It produces a big clear resonant rich tone full of harmonics. Our BellFlex brass alloy and treatment further enhances the resonance and ease of play in all registers. The Big Bell has an incredible dynamic and tonal range. It is equally capable as a blazing lead trumpet or for small group jazz work. It is an excellent tool for delicate chamber ensemble passages and blends exceptionally well with other instruments. It will help you produce the tonal qualities you need. The S3 Big Bell is an incredible trumpet with a sound and playability that will do it all. From commercial work to chamber ensembles the S3 Big Bell is the clear choice.

Stomvi S3 Big Bell Review – Initial feel of the build quality is second to none! After playing the same horn for 15 years, but trying many along the way, I must say this is the BEST horn I have ever played! Whether it is in church, a musical show, or a screaming big band gig, this horn can do it all! My sound has a broader feel and the horn is very in tune from below the staff up well past double D! It also gives me a better sense of my own sound allowing me to not overblow and play more efficiently and in turn I’m not getting tired! Playing the S3 Big Bell along with my Stomvi mouthpiece is a perfect match!

Being a former loyal Bach Strad fan (which my ex husband decided to sell … hence he’s an ex!) when it came to purchasing a new horn, I decided to try a few horns (thinking that I may simply purchase another Bach!) I didn’t find any I like, until the shop said “oh, we’ve just got this Stomvi S3 in” … I tried it and instantly fell in love! The sound is awesome and I was more at ease with blowing this horn than the others I tried! I initially used my Bach mouthpiece with it, but am more than happy using a Stomvi mouthpiece instead! Love this horn!

Huge, fat sound; easy to play; nice to hold; beautiful look and build; great valves; versatile–as Lynn Nicholson would say, “What’s not to like?” I’m using the S3 primarily for big band lead (with Stomvi S14A Flex mouthpiece), but it works great with my small jazz group and pops orchestra stuff as well. I’ve owned probably 20 major-brand trumpets in my years, and this one stands head and shoulders above them all. You won’r regret owning an S3!

By far the easiest trumpet I have ever played! The first time I played this at a vendor event, I knew it was my next trumpet. Never looked for another since.

Stomvi S3.
I love the horn, it’s so easy to get around. I use the horn for playing lead in the university jazz ensemble. I rarely ever get tired on this horn. The S3 cuts through the ensemble even while the band is playing at extreme volumes ! When I finish school I’ll be saving up for a VR2!

I bought my son Joe Holzen an S3 about 6 years ago after going back and forth between a couple other brands. He loves the versatility and the ease of slotting some of the higher notes. He’s a college music ed trumpet major now and he loves his S3!

I tried over thirty of the most iconic and recommended horns for lead trumpet playing at ITG 2018 over the course of 3 days, and only two other horns came close to the easy response and open blow of the S3 Big Bell, which I kept coming back to. Both of those instruments were custom-built horns costing five times more. I held off writing a review until now; I’ve been playing the S3 in two large jazz ensembles for over six months now (lead&solo), my progress from my practice routine has been significantly enhanced and the honeymoon still isn’t anywhere near over. I’m still amazed every time I play it. Of course about seven of my colleagues who play some of the best-known professional trumpets in the world have tried it and I’ve had nothing but positive reactions all around.

I have been Playing the S3 big bell for the last year. This instrument makes my job easier for the many styles I play including small group jazz, fusion, Commercial R/B, pit orchestra, and big band. I reached out to K.O. Skinsnes requesting help with a mouthpiece to meet my personal requirements. Four months ago I purchased the Stomvi Flex 3SVR (J6). In one word PERFECT! I am pleased with the ease of use and sound both live and on studio recordings. I can’t say enough in this review to sing K.O.’s praises, but in summary can say that KO knows his stuff. KO’s knowledge of science combined with his passion to help people like me to improve their skill level is priceless. I practice more than ever because improvement is more immediate with the right equipment.

I have been playing the S3 now for about 3-4 months and I love the response of the horn and the ease in all registers. Also love the versatility in any setting.

I’ve been on a safari for the past year. I’ve tried Bach, Benge, Schilke, Getzen, Edwards, Bohme, Van Laar, Yamaha, Adams, etc…and now Stomvi. The S3 is by far the easiest trumpet I’ve ever played. It also has the SOUND I’ve been looking for – resonant, brilliant yet full, loud (in a good way!). I have one more trumpet on the way (after 7 months)…a Shires CVLA-L. I’ve been waiting so long to try it, I don’t want to cancel the order. But, I would be VERY surprised if it can match the Stomvi S3 Big Bell in terms of ease of play and, more importantly, that full, resonant sound. I’m just an amateur, but this horn makes me sound like a pro! I’m guessing it has something to do with the unique “Bellflex” material they use. Whatever it is, it works! Thank you K.O. and thank you Stomvi!
P.S. The horn is absolutely stunning. The only horns that I’ve owned match the build quality are the Schilke B3B and the Edwards X-13.

I caught covid in late 2019. I was hospitalized and put on a breathing machine for 3 months. When I recovered 6 months later, I went back to playing my horn (doctors orders). I couldn’t play my normal equipment cause it was way to big, and I only had 73% of my lung capacity back. I needed something efficient and responsive that didn’t require a lot of air. The S3 has been a godsend !!! It is by far the easiest horn I have ever played. It doesn’t require much, to get a round, beautiful, brilliant sound all registers. It’s been almost 3 years now, and the S3 is my main horn for EVERYTHING!. K.O and the good people and Stomvi have helped me get back into playing again. Thank you Stomvi

Wonderful do it all horn. Easy to play, great intonation. The brushed lacquer is beautiful. I’m very pleased with this acquisition. My primary horn, now.

The S3 is absolutely amazing! I ended up purchasing it in the brushed lacquer finish. The horn plays extremely even, it has a nice round focused sound, spot-on intonation, and it’s beautiful to look at. Very easy to get around the horn. Hands down, the best trumpet I’ve played to date!

I love my Stomvi S3 Bb!! I’m a come back player, starting again last year after 22 years off. It’s such an easy horn to to produce THE SOUND I want to hear in all registers and dynamic levels. My Stomvi S3 Bb has contributed mightily to making me want to practice every day! It’s is just so much fun to play. I find it hard to put it down. I can easily tell you I’m having way more fun playing this horn because things I used to be only able to play in my younger years on a “good day” with “traditional” trumpets, I can now play EVERY day on my Stomvi S3 Bb.
