The UpMute is a great practice mute with impeccable intonation and an even blow throughout all registers.
Following the UpSound philosophy, it is a great tool in becoming a more efficient player. The UpSound filter in it allows you to “feel” when you’re using too much effort. The idea is to play your instrument with the UpMute and use the least amount of effort to produce the tone. In other words, be extremely relaxed and don’t use too much air. You will know you have it right when you feel very little back pressure from the mute. Then remove the mute and play your instrument with the same amount of effort and you will be amazed at how much easier it is to play and how full and resonant your sound is.

For me, this mute IS what all the other practice mutes try to be. I’ve owned probably 6 distinctly different ones during my career. In my experience with the Upmute, there is no upper limit, no pitch issues, and the resistance is balanced by the limiter to make my practice and/or warm up experience as it should be (when I must use a mute out of necessity). Volume is quite reduced. In my opinion volume is on par with (or superior to) the popular mute that has electronics/headphones attached to it (without some of the pitch and resistance issues I’ve experienced with that one).

Hey Trumpet Friends – If you like Bacon – well, the Upmute from Stomvi saved my Bacon 😊 – Recently I had to head up to Dallas for a road trip to visit family and I was stuck in a hotel due to the rainy weather and the Upmute really came to the rescue to allow me to keep my chops up while on the road. – I needed to be able to have “horn on face” time and didn’t want to piss off the folks in the adjoining rooms with my practice and the Upmute was awesome in cutting down the volume of my practice sessions without compromise to the way I was blowing the horn. I did not feel like the resistance of the Upmute was causing me to overblow in an un-natural way. I was able to play in a normal way and the resistance was very close to playing the trumpet without anything in the bell, so I didn’t feel like I was overblowing. Not only was the volume reduced without excessive resistance, the other thing that stood out was it was consistent through-out the registers from low to high. I’ve played other mutes in the past that made you feel like you were trying to play through a pillow to keep the volume down but causing you to overblow because the resistance was too much – but the folks at Stomvi have the real answer here and they created the best fit to deal with both the volume and keeping the resistance close to natural playing.
Hats off to you guys at Stomvi for a great product and thanks again for saving my bacon!!
Best,
Jerrold

We live in an open-concept house with tile floors downstairs, and the whole house is like an echo chamber. When I practice in my office upstairs it resonates through the whole house, much to the annoyance of my family, especially when I’m working on repetitive fundamental exercises like flexibilities and Clarke studies or playing high notes. I’ve also been limited in my practice time because my son is a day sleeper and my wife usually takes an afternoon nap. Problem solved! I can practice now as much as I want without disturbing anyone. The UpMute has brought peace to my home.
